  Henry G. “Jerry,”BRUMMER , 81, of Longmont died February 21, 2011, at his home.

Jerry was born August 4, 1929, in Boulder, Colorado, the son of Edith (Blosser) Brummer and Carl Brummer. He grew up in LaSalle, Colorado, returning to Boulder each summer. He was an award-winning football and basketball player at Fort Lupton High School, graduating in 1946.

Vet Flag Following high school, he joined the Merchant Marines and then the U.S. Army. He would return to Colorado and attend Colorado State Teachers College (UNC), where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in education. He attended a postgraduate program at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona.

On June 6, 1954, he married Marilyn Smith in Greeley, CO. They later divorced.

In 34 years as an educator, he taught, coached, directed school plays and took students on cross-country field trips from New Raymer, Colorado. He was a vice principal and principal at Kearney (Nebraska) High School; Valley High School, Gilcrest, Colorado; Longs Peak Junior High School; and Niwot High School.

Jerry loved to golf and enjoyed traveling, including trips to Egypt, England, Australia, Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean, wherever there was a beautiful golf course. He enjoyed old-time movies, being a knowledgeable aficionado of these classics. This joy he especially liked to share with his granddaughters. He was a lifelong member of the Longmont Elks Lodge, #1055.

Preceding him in death were his former wife; a son, Tony Brummer; a brother, Bob Brummer; and a son-in-law, Paul Smith.

Survivors include his daughters Sandra Smith of Longmont and Jerri Brummer-Grout of Erie, CO; granddaughters Jennifer Smith, Casey Smith and Amy (Frank) Strongoli; a sister, Charlotte Brummer of Colorado Springs; and his special friend Sharon Kelsch of Longmont.

Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, February 25, 2011, with David Bradshaw officiating.
