Obituary for Ernest "Ernie" Reichert                                 

Ernie was born November 17, 1944 to Ernest and Sally Reichert in Keenesburg, Colo. He grew up on a farm with a large extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles nearby. Ernie was the first in his family to attend college, graduating in 1966 from UNC. He and his first wife Marianne had a son Lee, and a daughter Gayle. In 1985, he married Cathy, his wife of 32 years.

Ernie was proud to be among the first class of teachers at Niwot High School, where he taught History, Psychology and coached basketball. He loved everything about Niwot High School and teaching, he retired in 2000. In later years, Ernie enjoyed volunteering as a Deacon of his church and served on the Board of Directors of St. Vrain Valley Credit Union. He also loved gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

Ernie passed away on August 7, 2017 and is survived by his wife Cathy, children Lee and Gayle, step-children Lisa, Cindy and John and their spouses, along with 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday August 16th at Westview Presbyterian Church 1500 Hover St. Longmont, 80501. If you are able to attend, please wear green in honor of Ernie, he always said he “bled green”. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Longmont Humane Society, The Alzheimer's Association or Central Presbyterian Church. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
